You are utterly right! Personally, I only ever clap as the last complimentary element of reading. My first two are always highlighting, and commenting as I go along, applauding turns of phrase, or epiphanies (and my comments are usually quite long and rambling, but always on point.) While sadly, this lack of etiquette you decry does not surprise me, it is downright annoying. For me, engaging with others is the entire point of being part of a writing community in the first place, I would think. But hey, maybe I'm "weird" like that, Lol. Right on the point, René, thank you! :)))
